Our story begins in the late moon of Spring, when the summer months are creeping into the air, and warming the landscape. The weather is now right to take the Mountain Passes, up north, toward the Golden planes and the meeting of the All Tribes.
Upon guiding the Tribe through a shortcut along open territory northwest of the Woodlands, Dark Day Born and his students came upon the smoldering ruins of the Tribe of Bone and Shadow At first they did not know what to make of the situation. The whole of the tribe's physical possessions had been burned to soot in the night, taken in an attack by what the survivors were calling "tiny wicker men."
Taking the Tribe into their own, Dark Day Born and Snow on Ashes began to investigate what could have provoked this onslaught. Only one of the tribes' members was killed in the attack: the Shaman's son, who died trying to rescue his father from a burning tepee. The Shaman was left unconscious from the smoke. They gathered information about the nature of the wicker-men from the rest of the survivors, learning that the creatures were no taller than a man's knee and had glowing red-hot rocks in the center of their chests, their heads were flame. Upon discovering a corpse of one of the wicker-men several miles south of the campsite, it was revealed that the stones were actually some kind of egg. It was also pretty heavily hinted (with great success) that this was the creature's weakness.
Back at the campsite the Shaman awoke and told the two adventurers that his son had brought him a strange blackened totem while out on a mission to retrieve something else from the Woodlands. This, he believed, was the object the wicker-men were in search of, explaining why they had assaulted his tepee the hardest, and why the creatures immediately retreated when he offered them a look-alike.
Following the wicker-men's trail the two adventurer's came across a swarm of the creatures they were hunting. They promptly kicked all of their asses (using the not-so-vague information about the "egg" being the "friggin' weak point, already"). They then traipsed into the Woodland, discovering a section of it's thicket that was somehow constantly burning. At the center of the burning wood there was a woman-like creature covered in black feathers with eyes like coal. Their weapons did nothing to her, but Snow on Ashes had the bright idea to wound her with water from his canteen. Which worked, so she died, and that ended the spell that was maintaining the woods, causing it to burst into flames. The fumes wounded Snow on Ashes with poison vapors pretty bad, but Dark Day Born managed to get lucky and leave only scuffed up. They left the totem behind, but killing the Firespeaker meant it wasn't that big of a deal any more. They also smashed up all her eggs in the nest she was protecting, taking care of any future wicker-men, too.
